Greenlight America is the leading grassroots campaign force powering the nation’s clean energy transition at the local level. Founded in 2023, we educate, empower, and mobilize volunteers to make their voices heard and win permitting approvals for clean energy projects in their communities. In the past two years we have advanced more than 15 gigawatts of clean power to the grid, more than seven times the size of the Hoover Dam.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Greenlight America is seeking an Institutional Fundraising Manager to be a driving force behind our growing fundraising operation. This person will lead a high-volume grant proposal and reporting portfolio and play a central role in bringing in the resources that power our campaigns.
This hands-on role will write, manage, and track a large number of grant proposals and reports throughout the year, work directly with funders, and help shape and grow Greenlight’s institutional funding strategy, serving as a key partner to the Development Director in institutional strategy and cultivating new funding opportunities.
Additionally, the Institutional Fundraising Manager will manage Greenlight’s institutional fundraising strategies and other projects such as our annual report, stewardship communications, and donor-facing events (e.g., Climate Week, regional donor meetings, etc).
This position is an excellent opportunity to work with a start up nonprofit that has noted recent successes with local clean energy campaigns that have advanced 15 GW of clean energy to the grid, avoiding approximately 2 million tons of GHG emissions annually.
The position is remote and reports to the Development Director.
PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Institutional Fundraising

Own an individual portfolio of institutional donors where you will be responsible for drafting a large volume of grant proposals and reports, as well as creating strategic pitches and tailored outreach to institutional funders.

Develop compelling narratives, tailored pitches, and persuasive case statements that reflect Greenlight’s strategy and impact.

Implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and engage new institutional donors and retain current funders.

Track and manage grant budgets, timelines, and deliverables to ensure compliance and timely reporting.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship

Lead the creation of our annual report and other institutional fundraising collateral.

Drive a clear, consistent stewardship strategy with regularly cadenced updates, personalized outreach, and strategic engagement with institutional donors (e.g., impact notes, updates, tailored thank-yous).

Lead and implement development team special projects, as well as collaborate and assist with other development team activities as needed.

Ensure donor communications reflect Greenlight’s mission, vision, and impact with clarity and inspiration.
Events and Strategic Initiatives

Partner with the Development Director to design and implement institutional fundraising plans, growing Greenlight’s funder base and building relationships with funders in key geographies.

Take the lead on donor-focused events such as Climate Week and regional donor stewardship events and opportunities.

Manage logistics, strategy, and follow-up for institutional donor events.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
We are especially interested in candidates with the following qualifications:
Key Qualifications

Must have 3+ years fundraising experience in climate/clean energy, including some specific grant writing experience with institutional funders that support clean energy permitting

Exceptional writing and editing skills — able to make complex campaigns clear, compelling, and urgent

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines

Collaborative, strategic, and energized by a fast-paced fundraising environment

Excellent verbal communication skills

Willingness to think creatively, take risks, objectively evaluate results, and iterate

Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative team player

Experience with analyzing and preparing budgets

Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods

Adept at online research

Proficient with Google Suite equivalents and database systems, including Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat on a PC platform

Passion for accelerating the clean energy transition
Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience meeting multi-million dollar fundraising goals

4+ years of experience specifically with institutional climate and/or clean energy donors
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base annual salary for this position is $75,000-$100,000. We offer an excellent benefits package which includes 100% employer paid premiums for medical, dental, and vision insurance, unlimited paid time off, monthly technology stipend, and retirement contributions through 401k and Roth plans.
